The intervention in Penafiel Secondary School is characterised by the construction of new bodies to house the ICT spaces, laboratories, library, canteen and snack bar and teachers’ work spaces. These new bodies interlink the existing buildings and a new changing/shower room block.
The existing administrative building was remodelled, retaining the school management and secretary’s offices and multipurpose hall/pupils’ social space. Other existing buildings were also renovated, including the workshop spaces, to meet current requirements in terms of comfort, safety and accessibility. The existing sports hall was remodelled and a new gymnasium was built that includes support facilities (shower and changing rooms and other support spaces).
The remodelled school has 50 classrooms and two new buildings. The school grounds were also remodelled, with particular emphasis on recreational and sports zones.
