Padre António Vieira Secondary School is a school complex opened in 1965 and belonging to the second period of school construction, although it was designed by a separate architectural team.
The intervention in the school was characterised by restoration of the existing buildings and construction of three new blocks, in addition to the providing covering for one of the playing fields.
The entrance body to the existing building house the library and the school secretariat on either side of the foyer. To the north are the school administration and management spaces, as well as the parents’ association and attendance the public spaces and teachers’ work rooms.
In the sports block a new gymnastics hall was built, which has also been prepared for dance classes.
The classroom block houses the normal classrooms, technological education classrooms, the pupils’ study hall, meeting rooms and the school administration staff’s break room.
The newly built body, which is located to the west of the existing structures and is linked to the classroom block, houses the special classrooms and activity and support spaces for pupils and teachers. The classrooms cover the areas of the arts and technical drawing, descriptive geometry, visual education, arts workshops, artistic expression, ICT, ICT and multimedia workshops and 5 laboratories. This block also houses the teaching staff room and meeting room, teacher training room, pupils’ association, school shop, photocopying centre, canteen, kitchen and snack bar, in addition to the maintenance workshop, storage area and technical area.
Work in the school grounds parts focused on reinstating green elements and restoration of built elements such as the pond.
