The intervention solution for Rio Tinto Secondary School focused on the facility’s urban integration and the relationship with the surrounding community. The new body houses the main entrance, school administration block, library, multipurpose hall, New Opportunities Centre, school shop and social spaces. A spacious gym/sports hall was built and the existing blocks were remodelled and interconnected by a new suspended horizontal distribution volume at the level of the main entrance to the facility.
In the school grounds new spaces were introduced: a themed pedagogic garden, a recreation/socialising space and an open-air amphitheatre linked to the multipurpose hall.
