Maia Secondary School has its origins in Decree-Law no. 457 of 28 October 1971, which created the Maia Technical School. In 1973, the school was institutionally upgraded when it became the Maia Integrated School, uniting all four elements of secondary education under one roof: secondary education, technical education, daytime education and night school.
The intervention in Maia Secondary School was based on the construction of new buildings to house the library, auditorium, canteen, laboratories, ICT rooms, drawing rooms and normal classrooms.
A new covered games field was also built, including support facilities (shower/changing rooms and support spaces).
The existing buildings were remodelled to bring them in line with the latest requirements in terms of comfort, safety and accessibility.
The exterior spaces/school grounds were remodelled with a view to separating the pedestrian access zones from the automobile access and parking areas.
