The current Monserrate Secondary School has its roots in the Viana de Castelo Industrial Drawing School. It assumed its present same in 1979.
The intervention was characterised by the construction of new buildings on the school’s new front, which house the school administration and social spaces, the new library and the new sports facility. The existing buildings were also remodelled, bringing them in line with modern-day standards in terms of comfort, safety and accessibility.
The existing workshop block was also remodelled, with the introduction of new functions such as science laboratories and ICT and art classrooms.
As far as the sports facilities are concerned, the existing gymnasium was upgraded and new support facilities were built (shower/changing rooms and support spaces).
The school grounds were also redesigned, with particular emphasis on recreation and sports areas.
