Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro Secondary School belongs to the second phase of school construction in Portugal. It was opened in 1964. The new intervention was characterised by the construction of a new building that interconnects the existing body at the new school entrance, which is now on Rua Almirante Gago Coutinho. The new entrance functions as the connection between the two existing exterior space platforms. The new building houses the library and multipurpose hall, which have easy access to the exterior.
The block in the middle the complex houses the classrooms, the teachers’ work rooms and the New Opportunities Centre and also connects to the gym and canteen block, which functions as an indoor socialisation space for the pupils.
The two blocks to the extreme north of the site house the workshops for mechanics, electrical installation and electronics as well as art and drawing classrooms.
The intervention in the school also included remodelling of the school grounds.
